Accessibility

My commitment

Cross Designs is a one person studio, and accessibility is part of how I build, not an add-on. I want the websites I make, starting with this one, to work for people who use screen readers, people who navigate by keyboard, people who need strong color contrast, and people on slow connections or older phones. Accessible sites are also faster and easier for everyone else, so there is no trade-off worth arguing about.

The standard this site follows

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Those guidelines cover the widely accepted requirements for making web content usable for people with visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

What I do to keep it accessible

• Semantic HTML on every page: one main heading per page, a logical heading order, landmark regions, and real buttons and links instead of clickable divs.
• Color contrast checked against the WCAG 2.1 AA thresholds for every text and background pair used on the site.
• A skip link at the top of every page so keyboard users can jump straight to the content.
• Text alternatives on images that carry meaning, and empty alternatives on decorative ones so screen readers skip them.
• Forms with visible labels tied to their fields, clear error messages, and autocomplete attributes so browsers can fill in your details for you.
• Animations that respect your reduced motion setting.
• Regular re-checks whenever I redesign a section or add new pages.

Accessibility features on this site

• Every page starts with a Skip to content link. Press Tab once on any page to reach it.
• The whole site works by keyboard alone: menus, accordions, the multi-step review form, all of it.
• Text can be resized to at least 200 percent in your browser without losing content or function.
• The site works in portrait and landscape and does not lock you into either.
• No content flashes, autoplays with sound, or moves in a way you cannot stop.

Known limitations

I check this site regularly, but I will not pretend it is perfect. A few honest notes:

• Portfolio previews include screenshots of client websites. I write alternative text for them, but the sites they picture are built to each client's brief and I cannot guarantee the pictured sites themselves meet AA.
• Some hand-drawn decorative flourishes, arrows, underlines, and sketch marks are purely visual. They are hidden from assistive technology on purpose.
• If a third party service the site loads, such as Google Fonts or analytics, introduces an issue, I may need a little time to work around it.

If you hit anything not listed here, it is a bug, not a decision. Report it and I will fix it.
